Kevin Mervyn Thomas
1942 - 2014

Before Kevin Thomas taught biology and coached football here in Lake Stevens, he was a Golden Gloves boxer in Seattle, an Issaquah High School all-conference football player, a scholarship lineman at Pacific Lutheran University and on coaching staffs in Issaquah, Moses Lake and Ridgefield. At LSHS Thomas led the Viking Football team from 1978 to 1986, with a 54-33 record, and to the State Championship Game in the Kingdome in 1985. Thomas also served on the staff of Kentwood H.S. from 2000 to 2003 when the KHS football team played in the state championship game three times, winning twice. Above all, he made wherever he as a better place by making those around him feel better about themselves.

Those who knew Kevin Thomas will never forget him; the best way for his students, his players, his friends and his family to acknowledge the gift of his example, to repay the debt to his memory, to honor his life, is to be like him. Without a moment of hesitation, without an instant of second guessing, without even a hint of entitlement or personal expectation, Kevin Thomas gave everyone he knew all of himself, his loyalty, his commitment, his friendship, his joy, his lover. As a teacher, a coach, a friend, a parent and as a husband, Kevin made everyone near him grateful for his guidance, his insight, his humor and his humanity.
