Mike Williams

Mike was a gifted all-around student and athlete whose legendary accomplishments are a permanent part of the folklore of Lake Stevens High School. He graduated as Salutatorian of the class of 1967 and was one of the finest all around athletes in the school’s history.

Mike truly excelled at football. He was a superb lineman and was voted all-state after leading his team to a State A Title. He was selected all-state in basketball while being a part of 5th and 3rd place state teams. His 43 points against Stanwood still stands as the school single game scoring record.

In track Mike won two state titles in the shot put while setting the school and state record of 62’1”. The state record lasted 13 years and after several decades this distance is still the school record. He also placed 2nd in the discus at state and to show his versatility ran on the league championship mile relay quartet and finished 5th in the state in the same event.

After being recruited by most Division I schools Mike chose the University of Oregon where he excelled in football, was a varsity basketball player, and was part of a NCAA National Championship track team. Following his graduation from Oregon, he came back to Washington, married and started a career in the computer industry until his untimely death in 1996.

We are honored to have Mike Williams as part of our Viking Hall of Fame as recognition for his outstanding achievements.
