SARAH DUNCAN

In the fall of 1993, Sarah Duncan began her freshman year at Lake Stevens High School; by the spring of 1997 she had become one of the most accomplished student/athletes to ever walk the halls. Her list of accomplishments, both academic and athletic, is a glimpse into the heart of a champion, competitor and student. A true multi-sport athlete, Sarah participated in varsity soccer, basketball, fastpitch and track. As a soccer and fastpitch athlete, Sarah proved that the days of success as a multi-sport athlete were not gone. Sarah achieved 1st team all league and team MVP honors in soccer, while receiving 1st team all-league, all-area and team MVP awards in fastpitch. Sarah also found success on the track, where she led the girl’s teams to 4th and 3rd place state finishes her junior and senior seasons. Her seven state medals, including five second place finishes and a state championship in the javelin, are testament to her phenomenal dedication and athletic persistence. Her javelin throw of 145’11” ranked as the 14th best throw in the nation in 1997.

Originally recruited as a heptathlete by Arizona, North Carolina, and Notre Dame, it was on the hardwood where Sarah’s light shone the brightest. In her junior and senior campaigns at Lake Stevens, Sarah garnered multiple post season awards including two first team all-league, two league MVP’s, two first team all-area, Everett Herald player of the year, and second team all-state awards. Sarah finished with a total of 10 school records in track and basketball, all the while, participating in leadership, winning the homecoming queen crown, and maintaining a 3.96 GPA. Sarah found her home playing guard for the University of Washington Huskies women’s basketball team. There, Sarah again proved to be the consummate teammate, competitive athlete and outstanding scholar. During her 4 years at Washington, the Huskies won a PAC-10 championship, competed in one NIT tournament and two NCAA tournaments, along with advancing to the Elite Eight her senior year. Her commitment to excellence was rewarded with the team’s Most Inspirational award twice, the Coach’s award, and an All-American strength and conditioning award.
