Shane Volkmann

 

Shane Volkmann, LSHS class of 1988, played in all 37 scheduled football games (23W-13L-1T) during his four letter-winning years at Western Washington University, where his durability and performance set career records for blocked kicks and kick return yardage, and earned All-Conference and All-Northwest honors, two All-America citations, and inclusion into  WWU’s All Century Team. Here, playing with the Lake Stevens Viking football team from ’85 to ’87 (32W, 7L), Shane made 286 tackles and 10 interceptions, ran for 3,193 all-purpose yards, scored 50 PATs, 18 field goals  and 18 TDs. In 1987 Shane was Player-of-the-Month for both the Seattle Times and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, was among the P.I.’s top ten players of the year, finished second in the state in scoring (112pts), and was selected to the East West All-Star Game. He broke the state record for most field goals in 1986 (14), and when he left he had won 7 All-Wesco, 5 All-Area, 3 All-State, and 2 Prep All-America awards. With contribution and character, Shane Volkmann, number 48, voted Captain, MVP, and Most-Inspirational wherever he played, brought honor to his alma-mater, and he epitomizes the best of the Lake Stevens Community.
