Mike Anderton

Mike Anderton (LSHS class of 1962), as a seventh grader, first found his way to the sidelines of a sporting event in the Lake Stevens School District sometime in 1957 when Tom Martin, math teacher and eventual Viking head football coach, recruited him to keep statistics.  He never left. Mike credits his life long love of sports to his Father, Wes Anderton, a former Lake Stevens Middle School Principal, who was a huge supporter of athletes and coaches.

On his day of induction, Mike Anderton would have been here anyway -- after all, there are statistics to record, and later, a story to write, a deadline to meet.

Working with every football coach since Martin and Al Martina and, every basketball coach since Dick Talbot, Mike perfected on-the-spot record keeping and statistical analysis, wrote countless game summaries and commentaries for the Lake Stevens Journal and the Everett Herald, and submitted individual game and season summaries almost immediately after the events they covered.

To the extent that numbers and stories can eventually contribute to both individual and team improvement, Mike Anderton shares in the achievements of fifty years.

Throughout a half-a-century of devotion, accuracy, and contribution, Mike Anderton’s commitment to the athletes, the coaches, the students, and the community of Lake Stevens makes him exceptionally well-qualified for induction into the Lake Stevens High School Hall of Fame.
